The last mohicans

5 am. party yesterday continued 'till today
uhuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

Ms CerealKiller and I said we were going to stay 'till the metro started in the morning, no matter what, and hell yeah, we danced until 5 (well...me at least :P).

Could you help me out with this? >>> Sustine Licenta Inei

I hate these TV's in the metro...or maybe hate is not the word. It's some kind of rejection.
For example, two days ago, I was waiting on the platform and every 8-10 meters or so there are some flat screens. Around and under them, 2-3 meters were empty, like there was toxic waste on that part of the platform, because people were sitting further away so as to stare at the screens. It was....like a sociological experiment. It also keeps people standing still. They sit and watch, making that a way of life.
Dunno...since I saw them the first time I just felt like "eugh, not here tooooo".

The Youth of Kamiya Etsuko

searching about it on the internet I came across something that sounded like this:
...it lacks any artificial help from a soundtrack to reveal the sadness...

What socked me about this movies, except it's gentleness which I consider a result of the culture that has produced the movie, was the moment Kamiya was crying in the kitchen. It was one of those moments when your mouth is smiling, like really really smiling. I was thinking that it's funny. The way she cried seemed like a child that was too nice and naive. That's the way the women behaved through the whole movie. So it was funny really.
But my eyes were filling up with water and it was one of those moments when you fought not to cry. I saw myself made out of 3 people. One was smiling and saying "dude, this is funny", one was crying and feeling pain like crazy, and the last, the most detached one, was analysing what was happening to the other two.
She was crying because the man she, as we understand, loved, was going to war, as a kamikaze. Instead of going after him on the road and maybe stealing one moment of truthful acknowledged love she goes in the kitchen and cries. I think it was not only the loss. It was the loss and the fact that she couldn't do anything to change the situation. She couldn't even go after him. It would only mean she had more to lose. Feeling powerless against war is only a metaphor for being powerless against our own rules or pride or society.

Page from the pink notebook

Yesterday...no , today, a little after 00 am

Human worth. That's what Mammoth is about. The same (most expensive) pen (in the world, made out of mammoth ivory) is worth than 30$ or less in another context... And the end is shocking...the western family seems left untouched while the others fall apart and build themselves again.
I was laughing today in the subway. I saw how ridiculous human clothes are. It's amazing, because it's not about covering our nakedness. It's about pushing up, down, tightening, shoving and stretching stuff. We stick our bodies in these moulds. I got started with this because of the disappointment with Sex&The City and because I was so obsessed with clothes for a few..many weeks.
But i also believe that nothing is meaningless. A bad movie, something stupid you buy, some conversation you have about chiskens or anything. Nothing is meaningless. You might just have a good idea while discussing flavours of gum.

Under pressure

Since Ms NewBornStarinHerEyes (some time ago) told me she read the blog I kept thinking about a thought she shared with me. It was an opinion of hers that stuck with me. She is very right, but thinking I was the only one who knew it made it easier. Since then, more or less, I feel some sort of pressure, even if it's only to not let her down. Before I started the post today I was thinking exactly about what she said and I was trying to find a topic. And then the obvious topic came to mind. There is almost noting worse for me than the combination between choice and pressure, and since most of our choices are done under some sort of pressure you can deduct a certain fact. Anyway, (so to not restrict to the word choice, but every reaction is a sort of choice) reacting under pressure is something we should study about ourselves. I guess there are people who react more responsible under pressure or people who react worse, panic and stuff...but the issues is what is pressure? Aren't we under pressure for everything? Expectations, conventions, "advice". To belong to a certain group you must manifest the same values or/and interests as the other members. All these aspect must also be seen in parts of our behaviour like what we chose to wear and what movies to see. Soo whether we admit or notice this, we feel pressure from our social groups.
The issue of time is also very important. If you have a second to react is totally different than if you have a week. I do believe in first choices, in that our minds and bodies have an instinct we should sometimes trust. As is showed a few lines earlier, if we think to much we might fall under the jurisdiction of "what is expected of us" and not what we want or are. I am not saying, ok, let's go wild, let's do everything we want etc etc. But as Goffman names it, we would always know the difference between our "presentation self" and our true identity.

Not mine

As I was looking at the photo that I chose for today’s blog (which is not mine), I got to thinking about this thing that most of us have(pun intended), to own stuff, people, money, ...qualities. Yes, we want other people's qualities, we want to own them and claim our merit for them. Anyway, rights on a image, rights on property. You name it. How many countries aren't there that allow men to practically own women? Don't worry, it's not about that. It's about owning in all aspects. I mean the harder you keep on to what you own, the more difficult life is and the more we all suffer in a way. If we would all share (everything, generally speaking) there would be no use of owning like we do now. Again I feel I have to specify something, that I am not talking about communism, but I feel as thought we are at the other end of the stick. We hold on to our stuff like mad, even non-physical things like our phrases (like something funny we said, "it's mine! you can't use it" or " I said it first") . In a world where most of the things have already been said and most of the stuff have already been owned and let's face it, except a Picasso, mostly everything is mass produced...what does owning mean? Memories came to mind, like those are definitely ours...but are they? How many times, when you did something romantic, didn't you copy it from a book or a movie? How many times when you said something fun you didn't get inspired by Seinfeld or whatever? Unless you are thrown out of a plane (preferably with a parachute) over a virgin part of the Amazon, it is unlikely that you are seeing something that someone else hasn't seen before. Oh, I am so pessimistic. I am ripping that shinny little layer of "no way! I am so unique!". It's not all bad. The unique things are the ones that can't be owned...that's what I am trying to say. Those things are probably indescribable and so small you forget them or so amazing that you'd want to share them but can't.
I honestly was going to write something totally different. I mean toooootaly.

Tomorrow then...about my almost buss fine and my workshop with USA TODAY editor. I think I am forgetting something. Maybe it will come back to me....And yes, the mys are intentional :P

An isn’t it funny. I did this without thinking. The photo said private property on the sign and the title of the file is “not mine” =))

Ohh I remembered…Irony. All on tomorrow’s next episode of…Please think of something unoriginal.

To see the point

I see, on average, a feature film a day, the two-hour kind. It's not a brag. I said this to illustrate I've seen a lot of movies.
After some movies I fail to see the point, what do they want to say with this film? what should it teach me about myself?, I do, and I spend days thinking about it. Like "A serious man" or " Whatever Works"(and books like "Mrs Dalloway"). These two come to mind. But then I remember them and I get it. I've named the two also because they try to say the same thing in a way, the thing I want to say in this entry.
What do we want? and What gives us meaning? are two different things. We may want a collection of cars, but does that define us? If we lose them , do we loose ourselves?
It's like this, there are people who have a career, money, health but want a person to love, people who have loved ones, health and a career with no money, they want money, people who have money, loved ones, health, but no aknowledgements, like a bad actor who makes a lot of money cause he's pretty, and so on and so on. Then there are some who "have it all"...and these guys kill themselves. :)) Bad joke, I know, but it happens. These guys want meaning. What is meaning? They search for a greater purpose, for some sort of superior goal. They find religion, they find charity, they find making babies, they find alcohol and/or they find the bullet, or worse: marriage, divorce, marriage, divorce etc. :P Afterlife? That is no guarantee and well...everyone will have an afterlife so why is it different from the one here? This is a serious question. If we continue to exist, except for the part that (for the worse I would say) it will be an eternity of status-quo (Heaven-good, pleasure, peace.Hell- pain, suffering, torment), why is it so special?
Most of what I say above is false, because I can't believe it's that simple. With 3-4 categories intertwined I managed to index what happens to people who actually search for that world of ideas I was talking quite some time back. The thing is I've felt like that all my life. So if I am reasonably ok in this life, career, health, love ...what does it mean ? Ha, I just realized I am a character from an Eminescu short story. Once I say those words....I am G.... I will fall. :))

Keep coming back

Everyday I think I am done with this country...and she proves me wrong.I do stay because I have a reason and I am grateful. I must be luckier than those who could actually leave. It means they didn't have enough reasons to stay.

Wind

There are many ideas about how life goes.
you have destiny, our lives are predetermined,
fate (which I understand as different from destiny), our life has a goal it has to be fulfilled (but we can choose the journey),
you have the old fashion God-surveillance and God-decisions which are not predefined, but obey some sort of law and we are still guided by a greater force
you have the chaos theory, everything is random
you have the "you are the power" theory, your choices lead to a chain of events and if you could go back in time and change a little choice everything would be different the second time around
....maybe there are lots more, I can' think of them at the moment, but there is also my favourite which doesn't really have a theory, it's more like how I see things.
Wind. We are entities that float on some sort of energy, not really a wind of air, more like an electrical current. There are things that attract us and things that repel us, we can sometimes fight it and sometimes we have to go as the wind pushes us, we can make a difference or we can just follow the current, depending on our personal structure. Of course, I believe in a power beyond our understanding today, partially because it gives me some comfort and partially because it makes life all so much more romantic and because this wind I imagine has some laws, some point which again, still remains to be deciphered. I would never admit that my life is predefined, but I don't agree with chaos or randomness. There must be some law of attraction between things.
Enough gibberish for today :)

Getting involved

Sometimes I have felt the urge to speak about social/political matters from my country and I have drowned it. I guess my way of getting involved is trying to make people think and nothing else. When I find myself in the middle of a discussion about politics or our social issues I am never a partisan to one side or another. Firstly , because I know I do not know everything and far less than many because I have no interest for the time being, secondly because I know I have a narrow view as an individual. As an example, Mr X liked a certain candidate at some time and was more than keen on him winning. But Mrs Fanny, whom is one of the most important people for me, hated that candidate. The both of then were bombarding me with opinions, so that I really didn't know what to think since I respected them both and valued their thoughts. So what I did was annoy them =))...with questions and arguments. The argument I got from one I put up against the ones from the other. Of course, no one won, but I got to the point where I understood they both have true and false arguments and their choice was dictated mostly by their social indicators (from age to money, social group, upbringing etc etc). Of course, you may think I am completely condescending and snob and why the hell am I not influenced by those indicators. I am, but I can recognize them and thus I can set them aside and try to get to...yeeees, you guessed it, logics and truth, my two favourite lovers. :D I hope that what I managed to do at that time was make them think form a different view. That's all about politics. If I ever were to start getting involved at another level in society I certainly wouldn't start with politics, because I find it less than a sckeleton in our country. I find that politicians have the most narrow views I have ever heard, read, saw ever and that just scares me. The ONG's, the charities, the independent projects...those are the places where you can actually do things. Well..that's my opinion.

I stopped on the verse : How do you turn what was savage tame? Love it.

I like the metaphor in "Up in the air" (movie, you should see it): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ha2_W3EYws0 (bare through that girl's talking and you see the idea with the backpack). He is right. Yet we do otherwise. I take great offense in being called a shark, I beg your pardon! :p

I can't even grasp the size of this concept, love. I wrote about half a page here and then I deleted it because it was a false problem. How beautifully Mencken says it : Love is the triumph of imagination over intelligence. Yes, it sounds lovely, until you realize what he is saying is love is not true, it's imagination. I feel as if I am being attacked on all sides. In discussions, from books, I see more and more that what we desire and believe are just bits and peaces we collect from around us. If I ask this : Who were the first people to be in love, what could you tell me? It's impossible to know. It's impossible to prove. We see love only as a manifestation and not as the essence. And we learn it , again, from manifestations. I even hate the idea that we learn how to love and not just feel it. But it's hard to argue with Ms HI when she says that our idea of love is taken from what we see, because I have no proof to show that it's real. It's like trying to prove people have souls. Of course, you need a soul to be truly in love...
I know how life works, I know what pragmatism is and I agree with it. Yet, I can't help, but believe there is something more to me that flesh and bones, and there is more to a couple than chemicals reacting in the brain.
The bad thing is even these ideas can be just things that happened to stick to me, that fit that little model in my head that was formed as I evolved. How much do we think for ourselves really? What opinion is ours , since we judge things based on "ancient" values and information we gathered up starting form the time we were crawling around the house, back then when we didn't really know how to filter information. I am actually scared of what I am saying. I find it troubling that no one starts from zero. We are born in a world with opinions on anything already spoken. We find them and we choose one basically, no matter what you say. It's great we have a choice....but I would like to be the creator of my life and not the society I was born in which offers me different layouts, like freaking hi5

The Gaze

Looking into my kitty's eyes and thinking she is a person. But it's very clear that she doesn't know concepts/words like "telepathy" or "non-verbal communication" or "meaning". Still that doesn't mean there isn't some kind of understanding between us. She can tell whether I am angry or not, or if I want her to come sit near me or to stop scratching the bloody bed. What I don't really understand about her is what the hell does she see and understand while looking out the window. She can just sit there quietly and sometimes she is angry at someone/something and she growls like there's a dog there. Looking in her eyes is sometimes like looking at some pretty grass marbles.
Of course it's not about her only. We all think that we have at least a couple of people we can "look in the eye" and know what they're thinking. I think that is totally false. The eyes have nothing to do with it. We read non-verbal signs, we judge on past behavior or actions, we maybe guess. It's funny because when I imagine this saying "I look him in the eye" I imagine the eyes becoming transparent and we see directly in someone's brain. Ah, but the brain is soo damn far. Everything we say is processed, even if just in the millionth of the second in which we choose the words from our "dictionary". I am feeling very apocalyptical in regards to communication. It's easier to make people buy, to make people kill, to make people sell or watch something, to make them do anything than make someone understand what you are really thinking. It's the individual that is harder to open up and understand than a mass of people, especially on random little things...but at the end those are the intimate things that represent the glue between two peers or , if not understood, they can be the crack that makes the dam fall and the valley flooded.
We are our greatest manipulator. We feed on these apparently simple things like If I look him /her in the eyes I'll know if he/she's telling the truth/ is angry or not/ loves me or not/ likes me or not etc
Ah, and the little idealist in my head pokes my brain and says : yes, but there is trust. Such a fantastic concept, trust. Apart from the fact that I consider all faith, including in God a kind of trust, it's unbelievable that we can choose to believe something that we have no evidence of, based on trust (words are methods for gaining trust, not evidence). It's easier to be loved than trusted....actually, anything is easier than that, both getting it and giving it.
I trust in a lot of things to be honest, but I base my feeling on...God knows what. Definitely not on a look.

I do love the song

The truth that bites your ear

you are down looking up

I am still thinking about the title :( and I am so sorry I forgot to write yesterday.
I went out unexpectedly and came back after midnight.
....
Thought of the title while walking towards the subway.

ador minutul 5

Truths regarding a person are particularly tricky. By someone's truth I mean his/her feelings, opinions, intentions, actions or what they know about oneself. This one is the only truth that someone possesses, they can transform truth into false and vice versa. Awesome power actually.
I don't want to seem like House saying something like "everybody lies", but people don't really hurry to tell the truth (their truth) because its personal nature makes them feel vulnerable and exposed if revealed. And who can blame them? Or better yet, who can blame us? It's very hard to be a truthful person and, commonly, they are also thought of as naive. Naive people don't lie as much as, for say, someone who is very perspicacious (yes, it actually is a word). It seems obvious to say that the difference in the degree of truthfulness in a person is given by his\her past experiences and/or level or selfishness, but I am sure that is not all. Even people with bad experiences in their past may still tell the truth even if they had been "burned" exactly because of that. And for the selfish or less selfish people it is only the matter of the selection of truth to be revealed (example the selfish may tell you something true, but hurtful while the less selfish one may not). One's values seem to play the most important role and it is also the complex answer. There are many elements in the set of values that one lives by and the experiences that could change or alter that set have to be very strong to make permanent adjustments.
I have managed to get thought that paragraph without mentioning the word "trust". I don't think that trust is the most important element in telling the truth. Of course it is very important but liars lie the one they trust and truthful people may tell the truth to ones they don't trust because they simply don't lie or accept the consequences of their truths (because of that set of values). I'd like to make a study if people tell the truth more to the ones they say they trust as opposed to the ones they don't know or don't trust.

Meds are my friends

Although I am currently having an affair with needles and pills, music is sometimes a smooth whisky you drink to drawn a deep deep sorrow...

After this portrait of addiction to meds and drinks, let me ask you a question.
First , my usual story for the context in which I ask my question (some people know). As a child, my grandmother(=doctor) would always tell me to think about something pretty when she had to give me an injection. Needles were not so thin in Romania. I got the reflex of concentrating on something I love when I feel pain and I found that it's more or less the same thing for a while now. What is your beautiful thing you think/you would think about in such cases? And is it the same or it changes every time?

Likes and dislikes

A few weeks ago I was talking to my colleagues in a very smoky underground bar about how we get ideas, right after an exam :)). We probably didn't use our rhetorical skills in the exam. We were wasting them in the bar. Anyway, two sides were taken...or better yet, described. The "while washing the dishes" and the " concentrate hard and read a lot first and during". I hope you already know which category I am in. It's not exactly washing the dishes. It's anything really. I usually read my assignment and just do something else, something simple and routine, or anything really, other than that thing. I think of it in the back of my brain and when I sit again at my desk I have more ideas.
I was in front of my computer, with his annoying little black vertical line blinking on the white screen. What was I to do? Read some blogs I follow, cleaned the kitchen, opened the windows, sketched something in my agenda and then sat down.
I thought at first to write a list of likes and dislikes about myself ,but I feel narcissistic enough these days so I though, what about the whole world? That includes anything I can grasp.

Likes(random)
1.the seasons. we'd get so bored only with one
2.Men. the nicest, most interesting...companions
3.Art. Ah, I love art.
4.Windows
5.Light
6.The sky
7.IMAGINATION !!!
8.Coincidence
I hope you didn't expect World Peace (and there isn't any.ever :| ) or penicillin or houses...uuu or the computer. I have a hard time picking actual pragmatic things. I have been living without my grandma for two long :))

Dislikes(random)
1.That we teach children the word "fair", make them live by it only to change them when they grow up. Mostly nothing and no one is fair.
2.Stupidity
3.Ignorace
4.Walking on the street and feeling unsafe
5.War and any OTHER kind of mass killing
6.That traveling is very expensive
7.the desperate conditions in which creatures exactly like us live
8.That to be a photographer it's sufficient to take one's self seriously and a fair rest will follow even if you have no voice.

Casablanca

I am not going to talk about love. The title is just a beautiful word that has a very very far fetched connection to what I want to talk about...even farther than the association between the word love and the movie Casablanca. Somehow they got to be considered synonymous. Like the word liar got to be synounymous to ...No one.

No one is the embodiment of lying, but No one is not important because even if I write it's name and address and personal numeric code you still wouldn't know who is No one. It is the lie in person, thus the truthful side that I know about No one does not exist...for you, and in some way I hope it stays that way. There are so many No ones...Mr X says I live in a bubble, only today I started believing him.

We all live with little lies. Like, come on, "how do I look?", "is it going to be ok?", "I will never lie to you " =)) . Every little lie can only be covered with another lie: - "really?:* " - "yes/sure". That's ok. If we would all tell the truth it would be...I really really can't imagine it. For people to tell the truth more they'd have to be better. The better you are(in reality), the less lies you have to say, really. Think about it.
So you accept the lies, little ones, big ones, but there is always one that just fills the cup someday, somehow. My question and debate in my head is, what do you do then? When you can see passed that immense monster of lies that seems to swallow everyone around because they don't see it. Imagine this huge Godzilla...lol...swallowing people around in the room, but these people are doing mondane things like cooking, drinking water, doing laundry, watching tv. The thing is, if you try to open the eyes of these people two of the following will happen : they think you are Godzilla or the whole Universe will do another Big Bang...again lol.
There's the question: Except you, who is it really bothering? Hmm...none of the people. They don't see, feel, smell or thing about the truth about No one. If they're senses don't feel it, it means it doesn't hurt them. Oh boy, the way I explained it now really gives me the chills cause my solution was just leave the room of the Godzilla, but who knows later on, maybe someone else feels it on his/her own skin... and I knew it was a possibility.
The little lie that filled the glass was awesome. You never know what it's going to be. I am still laughing.

Sorry I didn't get to post yesterday. I was in the mountains with highshool buddies <3

Judging beauty

Someone asked a very interesting question today .

I said that someone is more beautiful that all the snowflakes that were in front of my eyes. Those snowflakes were shinning like little diamonds because of the light on the street and it was snowing slowly.
Because of this implicit comparison between a person's beauty and the beauty in something that wasn't human, someone asked : How can you compare beauty between two different types of things?
Someone is right . How can you compare apples with pears?
But at the end of the day some people like apples more than pears. So it is possible.
My answer at the time was (and is still) that I can judge by what I feel, the pleasure I get from looking at them. I look at the snowflakes and I say they're beautiful . I look at someone and I think someone is beautiful. Both times I want to sit and stare, but only for one my "beauty meter" goes through the roof, and that is just a feeling. I judge with what I feel. Isn't that contradictory?

It's sad that we can't appreciate beauty alone. Critics also study the rules the artist followed, the technique he used, the colors, the artistic period. Their heart is clouded by technicalities. A simple viewer is influenced by price, by the artist's name, by size. You say duh!, everything is predefined. Our minds are not blank, our sight goes through our brain which is already full with opinions, beliefs etc etc so we cannot appreciate the beauty in something without awakening other thoughts in our minds. I wonder if Mona Lisa was even more beautiful if we didn't know what painting was, or Michelangelo or museums or even the word "beauty". What would we feel? How would a cave person appreciate the most beautiful dress, or those snowflakes for that matter if he was from the Amazon?I wonder how far in our evolution did we start to like things only because of beauty (not because of advantages of any kind). Of course we probably didn't have the concept "beauty" yet but that doesn't mean we didn't know it/see it/hear it/feel it/smell it.

Maybe you think this is a pointless questions, but since elementary school when in Romanian we talked about the theories that this world is only an imperfect reflection of the world of ideas I have looked for meaning in everything. The physical universe, Plato describes as a pale imitation of its true form, the metaphysical world where Ideas are eternal, immovable and also separate from the one that thinks them or the object upon which they ponder. Maybe with Ideas I can start to see the absolute truth and implicitly, true beauty.

Unfortunately Plato also says that LOVE(or Eros) is continuous dissatisfaction of the soul...I hate that I am human.

To be in tone with Greece...I miss it. I miss the heat, the buildings, the sea, the wind, the temples everywhere I looked, the roads through the mountains, oh how I miss Delphi and Athens, miss walking on the shore of Thessaloniki...

It's hard

It's hard to write something relevant to you when I almost never leave the house and I spend my time with my nose trapped in books. The glorious season is upon me! As in exams time ! iupiiiiii

The only "intelligent" idea that I had today (which does not presume writing you a whole manual about social or political theory combined with history) is about a quote the teaches asked us to comment, paraphrased like this : mass-media is all-powerful because we make it all-powerful. So true...I was actually very bored. She could have gave us something less "yeah yeah, heard it before", but when I started writing I thought of something new. It's the spiral of silence theory. Media feeds itself feeding the opinion of the majority, that opinion being that media has power or is wright or can do things we can't.
In all fairness the media does have some things some people, as people outside the media don't have: the access to information, the channels to share it very very quickly and to many many people. Media give us the sensation that we're there, where the fire is, where the NATO meeting is or in a porn star's bedroom and we know she split up with her football player bf.
Media mediates between us and that place we don't reach .The only bad thing is we sometimes live in the illusion that everything we are exposed to has importance to us...hey, they have to earn some bucks. War is such a mood killer and so is economy ..and culture...bleah, boring. Take me back to the porn star bedroom :D .

Excuse

I found myself yesterday giving a reason to why I took a certain photo that I submitted on dev and it got me thinking. I usually try to give a reason to people for , indulge me*, my art.
And I got to the conclusion that I am right in doing so.

Art is selfish, one of the most selfish things in the world. I believe that the artist must be totally himself and introverted when he creates. It's his choice and his idea. If he thinks about "what do people want to see in this?" that's not art, that's guessing. So the art is first for yourself, your way of expressing what you have in yourself.
But when I choose to share it I think that you should have a reason. You don't share your art just like that. You have a reason : I think it makes people happy, I think it helps people, I think it enriches people's lives, I have a message to transmit to the world etc. (if your reason is to be popular...or make money...your business)
I think that is why I give "excuses". I give a frame of reference or an idea of what was in my head to the ones that waste their time to see what my head composed ...maybe it also has to do with the fact that I don't know which one I love most: word or image. <3
